Aside from the hyperbolic title, I think this video has some interesting points. If you look at the literature linked there is mild evidence that this will help you. Sometimes, just a little push can help you achieve what you want. So what actions should you take?

  1. Write it down. Get your goal out of your head. You forget things, don't rely on your memory for everything.
  2. Regular review. Now that you've written it down, look at it regularly. Find some method to ensure that you are reminded of your goal.
  3. Monitor progress. This can be as simple as asking your self each time you see the goal, "so, how's it going?"
  4. Anticipate obstacles with the WOOP (Wish, Outcome, Obstacle, Plan) method. Identify a Wish that you want to achieve. Visualize the positive results of the Outcome. Identify Obstacles within your control which block you. Plan concrete steps with "if-then" statements for when obstacles occur.
  5. Identity Alignment. Personally align your self image with the goal. "I am a person that has fun with my children".
  6. Quality. Pick a small number of meaningful goals that have a larger impact.

In the end don't beat yourself up. Find the things that really mean something, not just things everyone tells you are important. Focus on getting your best life.
